Mass. General Laws Ch. 272, §53A (a)

  • Any person who "engages, agrees to engage, or offers to engage" in sexual conduct for payment will be fined up to $500 and imprisoned for up to a year. The sexual conduct does not have to occur to be charged.

Mass. General Laws Ch. 272, §53A (b)

  • Any person who "pays, agrees to pay, or offers to pay" will be given more serious penalties upon conviction: up to 2 ½ years in jail and fines of up to $5,000.

Mass. General Laws Ch. 272, §53A (c)

  • If a person conducts any of the above actions with a person under 18 years of age, he or she may incur penalties of up to 10 years in prison and a maximum of $10,000 in fines.

Mass. General Laws Ch. 272 §§ 8

  • Any person who solicits a prostitute may incur penalties of up to 2 ½ years in jail and fines of up to $5,000.

Mass. General Laws Ch. 272 §§ 12

  • Any person who helps obtain a prostitute may incur fines of up to $500 and up to 2 years of imprisonment.

Mass. General Laws Ch. 272 §§ 24*

  • Any person who owns or keeps an establishment where prostitution occurs may be imprisoned for up to 2 years.

*those who are receiving their earnings may be punished more strictly: up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000
